International students can enter Canada amid extended restrictions

Although Canada has announced the extension of border restrictions till 21st July 2021, the norms for international students remain unaffected. If they possess a valid study visa for Canada and are being admitted into a Designated Learning Institute (DLIs), they must be on-campus. In that case, they will be allowed at the border to enter Canada. However, non-essential travelers are still not permitted within the country.

Canadian authorities have paused the processing of Canada study visa applications for the fall semester. Still, those students who had applied before 15th May will decide on their visa by 06th August to make the necessary travel arrangements. The recent rules and regulations that apply to the international students are –

  • They are required to undergo COVID-19 testing upon arrival
  • Quarantine is to be maintained until test results arrive
  • Vaccination is not a mandate yet from the Federal authorities
  • Certain Universities like Western University, Trent University, and Fanshawe College have mandated at least one dose of vaccination for the students to be allowed into the residence halls
  • The University of Toronto maintains the same condition, but it gives a 14-days bracket to the students to get vaccinated after arriving. They could access free vaccine in Canada if they were unable to do so in their respective home countries
  • The four vaccines being recognized by Canada are – Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson and Johnson
  • Travelers that prove their vaccination status in two phases: uploading documents on the ArriveCAN app and the national certification status recognized globally.

With the massive vaccination and improving the situation, Canada is expected to make more announcements soon to ease the restrictions for fully vaccinated Canadians and travelers. In addition, it may quickly allow non-essential travel to Canada for visitors with some practical measures to avoid any spread of the virus. Canada has been applauded for its effective fight against the pandemic and even rose to become the best country to live globally.
