There are many bright students in India, who wish to study in USA, Europe or China, but financial constraints restrict them from pursuing their studies overseas. If you are one amongst them, then you are reading something which is specifically meant for you. As foreign education is expensive, there are certain international scholarships listed below, which are meant for Indian students, and can help them in funding their stay and studies overseas.

Tata Scholarship for Students from India

The Tata Education and Development Trust has established an endowment of $25 million, which will allow you to study in Cornell University, one of the top Universities in USA. It is aimed at providing financial aid to undergraduate students from India. The Fund will support approximately 20 scholars at any given time.

To receive the undergraduate scholarship, a recipient must be a citizen of India and have attended secondary school in India. The recipient must be offered admission to Cornell as an undergraduate student and be eligible for need-based financial aid.

The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan

If you aspire to study in UK for higher education, there are multiple scholarships available for Indian students in the pool of Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships. The CSC (Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK) offers 800 awards approximately for postgraduate study and professional development each year.

To be eligible, you need to prove your competence in English through IELTS and your post school education must be through English medium. Further, you must have secured at least 60% (Humanities and Social Science group) or at least 65% (Engineering and Technology, Science and Agriculture Group) in your bachelor’s degree if you are opting for post-graduation.

Students planning to pursue Business/ Management studies must appear for GMAT before applying for this scholarship.

Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship

This fellowship is provided by The United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF). It is designed for outstanding Indians to pursue a Master’s Degree program at select U.S. colleges and universities for one or two years.

It will be granted to individuals who are highly motivated and exhibit leadership qualities, have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree with at least 55% marks, have at least three years professional work experience, and are committed to return and contribute to their communities.

Inlaks Scholarships

Awarded by Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation, these scholarships are applicable for Master’s Degree, Master’s Diploma, and Master’s Certificate for all top Universities in UK, Europe and USA. The Foundation award the scholarship for maximum amount of US $100,000 which includes tuition and living allowance for the entire duration of the course.

The selection of students will be on the basis of extracurricular and academic achievements, potential and suitability of the chosen course, project or program. All the shortlisted candidates are required to attend the personal interviews.

Chinese Government Scholarship for Indian Students

Under India-China Cultural Exchange Program, Chinese government offers scholarships for Indian students to pursue undergraduate programs, master’s programs, doctoral programs, general scholar programs and senior scholar programs. Final selection of students rests with the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

For undergraduate programs, merit lists would be based on Class XII marks (80% weightage) and class X marks (20% weightage). For Master’s, Doctoral or other programs, priority would be given to students who have completed their last qualification from a Central University or Government recognized Institutions. Also, the candidates are expected to have basic knowledge of prevailing geopolitical situation, culture and heritage of China.
